A meeting of the Heads of State and Government of the member countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) was held on Thursday, 24 March 2022 at NATO headquarters in Brussels. The summit, chaired by Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, was convened in connection with the crisis in Ukraine.

The extraordinary summit addressed the consequences of the war in Ukraine for NATO countries. In parallel with the summit, bilateral meetings between nations and organisations will also be held. In addition, US President Joe Biden, who is in Brussels for this extraordinary summit, will also attend the European Union summit on 24 and 25 March in Brussels.

Brussels and Belgium have recognised experience and know-how when it comes to organising European and international summits. Preparing for the summit required a great deal of mobilisation by the federal authorities and involved many stakeholders and partners – including FPS Foreign Affairs, FPS Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Defence and FPS Home Affairs – for all aspects related to security and prevention, protocol, mobility and communication. The summit was organised under the best conditions, in perfect collaboration between federal and regional institutions.
